ky West Land and Cattle resides just west of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. Our operation consists of 140 purebred and full blood Salers cows, 25 Black Angus cows, and 60 commercial cows. Our family has raised Salers cattle for 37 years. Our main goal is to produce functionally sound cattle with performance and calving ease. To produce cattle with high maternal traits and low maintenance requirements, that will save you money and make you money, all the way from the pasture to the packers.


he Depalme property was purchased by Ray’s grandfather Jean in 1926. Ray’s father Frank and Grandpa Jean had dual purpose Shorthorns and sold dairy products under the name Shady Nook Dairy Farm. Frank Depalme sold the cow herd in the early 1940’s and started a small feedlot to better utilize crop production. Ray farmed in partnership with his dad after graduating from college in 1965.
